The MPAA, the movie industry's version of the RIAA
The MPAA or Motion Picture Association of America is a trade group that represents the interests of the big six movie studios; Walt Disney Company, Sony Pictures, Paramount Pictures, 20th Century Fox, Universal Studios, and Warner Brothers. They produce the movie rating guide, but are included in the website due to their involvement with attempted protection of the studios from copyright infringement, and its use of the DMCA.
MPAA actions
In an example of their actions against those who infringe on copyrights, the MPAA went so far as to force a police raid on servers of The Pirate Bay, a BitTorrent downloading site. Even though the MPAA is technically an American organization, the site's servers were still shut down. The site was only down for a few days, as they relocated to the Netherlands and were brought back up to full running speed.
The picture at right was a change made to the logo after the site went back up and was kept up for a day or so afterwards.
